I'd do it again in a week, but they are pretty accurate--we used home pregnancy tests at the women's health clinic where I worked.

two days is way too soon for the test to work. Some will work in as little as 5 but most say two weeks after you missed period.
As far as the test themselves, they are very good at saying if you are pregnant, but not good at saying you're not.
That is if it says you're pregnant you are, if it doesn't it do not mean you're not. The test work on hormones levels and it can take a while for the levels to get to a point where the test can detect them.

well, the pregnancy test (not counting blood test) done in a dr.'s office is the same as one done at home, but since a nurse dips the stick, that supposiably makes it more accurate, i would wait a bit longer, if you have normal periods, sometimes it takes time to build up enough HCg to make the double line

Are you always regular? I know that pregnancy test don't show false positives, however if it's a little to soon, they can show a false negative. I would wait a week and try again if you're not convinced. If you are always right on time, then it's probablly correct.

It might be negative because you just don't have enough hormone in your urine to get a positive result yet or you're actually not pregnant. If still no period in another week, try urine test again. If still negative, you might consider a doc appointment for blood test.

could be a false negative, those are very common. A false negative almost never happens. Wait about another 3 days and if you don't start test again. May just be too soon to pick up the HCG in your blood or you could go to the dr for a blood test

Wait 3 days, if you still haven't gotten your period, test again. You may have miscalculated your cycle, or you may not have high enough hcg levels to register positive on a hpt yet.

It depends. false positives are rather unlikey, but depending on how early you test you can get a false negative. Also, keep in mind that very early miscarriage, or spontaneous abortion is still a likely possibility untill the first trimester.
