20,000 pounds = 20,000/ 2240 = 8.93 tons (English)
The nearest answer is B).
Is it possible that they have changed the definition of English ton to mean 2000 pounds. In that case, the answer is 10 tons exact. Letter (B)

NONE of the above. The original setter of this question may know that an English ton is 20 "hundredweight" but perhaps is unaware that, DESPITE its name, :

1 hundredweight (cwt.) = 112 pounds weight (lbs.), and therefore

1 English ton = 20 cwt. = 2,240 lbs.

The closest answer is therefore B, but it's a fair bit off from what it should be: 20,000 / 2,240 = 8.929... English tons.

The (former) English system of weights and measures (now supplanted by kilograms etc.) also involved:

1 stone = 14 pounds or 14 lbs.

All British people used to weigh themselves in stones and pounds, not just pounds as Americans do. When I was a fit young cyclist, my racing weight was 10 stone 7. (The "lbs" are understood. This is 147 lbs. Note that the plural of "stone" is still: "stone.") Alas, my weight is now around 195 lbs (13 stone 13 lbs), and my doctor wants me to shed some 30 lbs, or slightly more than 2 stone.

Live long and prosper.

An english ton, also called a "long ton", is 2240 pounds. So the answer is, none of the above.

Perhaps the problem should say "short ton", which is 2000 pounds.
