This book is described as “one of the best narrations of the ‘double life’ of a Victorian gentleman” and “also one of the best accounts of the division with-in London itself”..what does that mean ?

It means exactly what is says...

Victorian men often lived "double lives." Being a gentleman, one had to keep up his outward appearances, act all stuffy, etc. At night, many would sneak out so that they could live amongst the poor, drinking heavily, hanging out with prostitutes, etc... The story of Dorian Grey was an allegory of this fact of Victorian life...

Great story too, by the way... give it a read!!

The main character i.e. Dorian Gray lived a double life. During the day he was a gentleman, an angel, but in the night he became devilish.
And London may be considered the same. It was a great view daytime, but during the night changed in a quite scary place.
So, from this point of view, Dorian and London were the same.

It's a great book!

Sounds like you have not read the book.

Dorian was living a double life. One as a member of high society having tea with the rich and famous, the other in opium dens of the red light district sharing pipes with prostitutes. This double life is the books double entendre, in that it also describes the vastly different lives of the rich and poor people of London.
