If I have an NVQ2 in Care what jobs can I do? I know there is Care Assistant in Retirement homes but is more varied than this? What can I progress to?

You could work in a hospital as a Healthcare Assistant. Depending on what ward you work on you could be assisting doctors and nurses, taking blood pressures and TPRs, escorting patients to imaging and theatre and managing IV fluids and catheters. I used to work as a HCA on an emergency surgery ward. It was very challenging and interesting. These days you get more responsibilities such as taking blood, doing ECG's if you want to progress to NVQ 3. From there, you can do your RGN and become a trained nurse.

You may need to take a few more options at NVQ but it is far better than working in a private home. You get much more action, experience and benefits such as NHS pension and pay scheme. Hard work though!

Good luck

Maybe try doing some bank healthcare assistant work at your local hospital. This would allow you to work on a variety of wards and if you liked one ward or specialisation alot wait for a vacancy to appear and apply.

you do not have to just stick with the elderly.. contact social services they have group homes and residential homes for people with mental health problems.. you could also work as a n auxillary nurse in a hospital or hospice. there is agency work you could do, domicillary care helping them in their own homes. you can also obvioulsy try for a level 3, though yoiu should be working in a supervisory role to do this. good luck there are many different options open to you
