for regular/routine blood test your dont haveto fast. They are only looking for blood type, pregnancy status, and a few other things thataren't affected by eating.
Around 24-38 weeks you will probably do a test for gestational diabetes that requires fasting for at least an hour and a half before the test in order to get a base line sugar level and then they have you drink a super sugary soda type drink and then check your blood sugar levels.
That's the only test that requires not eating for a certain amount of time.

The only one I had to fast for was the one to test for gestational diabetes. Around 28 weeks you'll be tested for that. You'll have blood drawn first and then you have to drink syrup, which is very similar to a very sweet soda. After an hour you will have your blood drawn again. If your test comes back high, you'll have to get a 3 hour glucose test where you do exactly the same thing, only you have to be there 3 hours and get your blood drawn each hour.

you shouldn't have to fast for any blood tests unless they specifically tell you to. The only one I can think of that you need to fast for is the 3 hour glucose test - but that's not a test you will have to take unless you fail the 1 hour glucose test (that you don't have to fast for).
Just to make sure your Dr. does things the same way... you may want to call the office and double check. It never hurts!
:) Good Luck!

It just depends on what kind of bloodtest you are having. The only one i had to for was the sugar test, but if you have to, then they should tell you, but sometimes they forget. so you could always just call and make sure.

I am a phlebotomist and work in a lab. The only test you have to fast for is cholesterol which is refered to as a Lipid panel, or gluclose test which is a regular prenatel test.

You'll be told if you need to fast before the draw. You have to fast because they're checking your sugar for gestational diabetes. Some diabetes tests require fasting, some don't.
