When Hitler and the Nazis were on the march across Europe, the US was hiding and saying, "It has nothing to do with us" until Hitler declared war on the US. Meanwhile, Canadian troops were in Europe from 1939 onward.

The US started a war in Vietnam and the Canadian PM told the UN it was wrong. Johnson picked up Lester Pearson by his coat and said, "Don't **** on my rug", but Pearson stood up to him. Anyone remember what happened in Vietnam?

The US "thinks" that private health care which leaves 40 million without coverage is better than socialized medicine that covers everyone.

The US right wing "thinks" the $5.15 minimum wage doesn't help the poor and kills business and are against an increase. Canada has an average minimum wage of $7.60 (US$6.40) and it has no effect on economic growth, but it does on reducing poverty.

The US "thinks" that invading Iraq would reduce "world terrorism", and Canada said it wouldn't.

The US sends troops to occupy countries. Canada sends peacekeepers; in fact, it was Canada's prime minister Lester Pearson who invented the concept of peacekeepers. Pearson won the Nobel Peace Prize for it; how many US presidents have a Nobel Peace Prize?

The US has screwed up so many times on so many things where Canada got it right. Why should this be any different?

Regarding the first two comments, I don't think any country would let terrorists in if they knew their true intentions were to kill innocent citizens. Well perhaps when the U.S. government has enough proof pro or con, there might be a change in decision some what; time will tell, but I'm glad that Maher Arar's name has been cleared in Canada.

Actually The Americans let Mohamed Atta into the United States.Canada doesn't control American immigration anymore.

The Americans can't take Arar of the list...they would be admitting liability.

Of course they should take him off! But after all that happened to him why would he go to the states? Mind you, staying in Canada wouldn't make sense either after what happened. But where else would he go is probably what he asked himself. I think heads should roll for this(metaphorically speaking).

Does the US have a PC lottery like we have in Canada? My advice to the US is to follow your own evidence and use your own judgement. To put the shoe on the other foot, just because a US jury acquitted OJ Simpson doesn't mean I would welcome him into Canada.
