No. 10 litres is about 2.5 gallons. And if you count in the plants, the decorations, the gravel, etc, that's about 2 gallons of water.
Fancy goldfish - which are the smallest type of goldfish - need a MINIMUM of 15 gallons (or 60 litres) of water, each.
Other types of goldfish like koi, commons and comets are pond fish and need 100s and 1000s of gallons of water to be healthy.
Goldfish are big fish. Even the smallest type of goldfish will grow to be longer than your tank is! And they are poop machines. They eat a lot and they produce copious amounts of ammonia.
They need a large amount of water and they need heavy filtration.

They will not live long in your little tank; maybe a month or two. Healthy goldfish can live 20 years or more.

If you want to keep your goldies, you'll have to get a bigger tank. If you need to keep your little tank, you'll have to look into getting a betta fish instead of the goldfish.

Love those solutions, you could depart your air pump off. Your fish received't suffocate. The air that enters the water through and air pump floats to the outdoors the position it dissipates lower back into the air. once you've the right length filter out equipment, then the water move will enable the gases interior the tank to flee. Air pumps do no longer upload oxygen to the water. they're specifically for our entertainment. Aeration may help with slowing down algae blooms by ability of the technique of agitating the water and liberating the gases that kind interior the tank.

Why would you want to turn the pump off? If it's because it's noisy, you can place the pump on a paper towel and the vibrations will be quieter. I cannot think of any other reason you would want to turn it off. You have a very small tank with four goldfish, and they will use up the oxygen in the water very quickly. One answerer stated that goldfish swim to the surface "when they need oxygen." It is true that if they have trouble getting oxygen out of the water, they are able to gasp air by swimming to the surface.

However, think about this logically. Fish have gills. They are DESIGNED to pull oxygen out of the water with their gills. If you take a fish out of water, and they have to breathe solely through their mouth, they will die. This does not happen immediately, of course, and they are able to breathe straight air for short peroids of time because it is a safety precaution built into their physiology. It is not different if they have used up the oxygen in the water and are gasping for air. They can do this for a limited amount of time, but not for long.

A pump is the same thing as a 'bubbler'... so the answer that states to leave the bubbler on is not valid in saying you can turn the pump off.

" Filters
A water change helps a lot when it comes to keeping your water clean, but a filter will make your job even easier. A filter works 24 hours a day and purifies the water in your tank by removing harmful chemicals and debris. Modern advances have also made filters easier to maintain than ever before. I suggest the external box filter because it takes up no space inside your tank, is simple to maintain, and because the current it causes in the water helps to add more oxygen for the fish.

Pumps, Airstones
Also known as a bubbler, the airstone sends tiny bubbles into the water. These bubbles agitate the water's surface which in turn keeps the water oxygenated. Without one, your water may get stale. Also, since harmful gas passes out of the aquarium through the surface, a steady current facilitates this as well. If you have a filter like the one described above, you could get by without one, but they're not expensive, so I suggest adding one to your tank as soon as possible. "

In Summary: Water circulation is necessary for the health of your fish. If you have an outside-the-tank filter, turning your "bubbler" off overnight should be ok, but if you have no other means of water circulation , it is necessary to keep your air pump on at all times. Also, the larger the surface of the water in the tank the better.

First, no, you can never turn off the filter/aeration system. And it should be a filter system for goldfish. You cannot turn off the pump because, in addition to the fact that goldfish require a huge quantity of oxygen in the water, the constant movement of the water is what builds up the beneficial bacteria that live in the gravel and, depending on your filtration system, in the filter. Disruption of the filtration/aeration will kill that bacteria and make you water quality levels dangerous within a relatively short period of time. With regard to the remaining issues you have, listen to Zoe. She is completely right. Read up on water quality, cycling and water changes so that your tank and your fish stay healthy.

Those fish are not going to be OK with or without the pump. That tank can not even support 1 goldfish. By keeping them in such a small tank you are giving them a cruel, slow, painful death.

yes, as goldfish are in the carp family and a little dirt won't hurt. i have no filter at all and after 4 years and raising fish most of my life, they'll be o.k. they could use more room however. remember that they are most comfortable in their natural environment and take from that we should give them the most room and best conditions possible,so even though they are easy to care for, far more should be done to make them as comfy as we can because if they had a choice they'd rather be in nature as opposed to a tank. if you had a 500 gallon tank, that is only a fraction of it's natural environment!

Is the pump the only thing keeping the water circulated? Like is there a bubble maker? If the pump is the only thing making bubbles I would keep it on since there is more than one fish in the tank.... but if there is a bubble maker than go ahead and turn off the pump, all the pump does is keep the tank cleaner.

if your talking about an air pump sure. if your talking about a filter pump no the bacteria that live in it need air to survive. they eat the fish waste so you don't have to keep changing the water.

Fish need you to change the water otherwise it would be like taking a bath in a toilet. You cannot just put them in a bowl and just feed them

You need to get a bigger tank. The water in that tank will get toxins built up too quick for your fish to survive long.

Gold fish are a hardy breed and they can live without an aerator but if the water gets too dirty you have a chance of developing ich and your fish could die from that. I don't think that and occasional night would hurt but the filtering of the water is what helps keep disease down in your tank and keeps it clean all the aerator does is replace the oxygen in the water. I keep gold fish in my horse watering trough and they are very healthy and growing every day so the aerator is up to you
