just anxiety dreams
Violent dreams are relatively common and may be a reflection of the confusion and conflict that the dreamer experiences in daily life. Dreams with violent themes suggest that the dreamer has unconscious negative emotions such as fear, anxiety, and anger. If you are not dealing with these feeling consciously, your dreams are compensating and bringing into awareness the need for honest reflection and emotional balance in daily life.

Speaking as a person who has had nightmares of people trying to kill me (my family included) and watching people being murdered for over 8 years. I have learned that in most dreams (not all) you are everyone in your dream.
About the dreams of someone trying to kill you. It could mean there is something about yourself that you do not like. Maybe doing a self evaluation and seeing if he's happy with life, or if there is something he hasn't done and wants to. If there is a conflict among the family it can cause these dreams too. Or maybe (like in my case) once you know the normal meaning it will all go away.
When I had dreams of people being killed and I couldn't do anything about it. (Oddly enough) it meant there was going to be a change in your life, or that your life is headed in a new direction....like getting married or having a baby. In my case when I had those dreams I was engaged and pregnant, and once I found out what the dreams meant they stopped.
There are several sites on the Internet if you look up dream interpretations that cover the basics of dreams.
I hope this has been helpful and speaking from experience I truly hope the dreams stop for him!

Every one gets dreams. A few remember and most dont remember. Normal that we see our self as either VIctims or as Heros in dreams.
Check if he is under influence of alcohol or any medication.
Change the bedroom or sleeping position.
See a light comedy movie or a musical before going to sleep

He is depressed. He should go to a psychologist, or doctor for some aniti-anxiety medication. He's having conflict when he is awake and that is disturbing his sleep. Pray for him...and he shouldn't hesitate to seek help. When the problem goes away, the dreams will too.

I don't think dreams always have meaning but it seems that he may be stressed out or something is bothering him and he doesn't know how to deal with it so his mind is making up other stressfull situations while he sleeps. He might need a vacation to clear his mind

lots of the time, people on your desires are photos of your self. So, the relatives member being pregnant is what you are attempting to realize for your self. this is your wish. you do no longer understand why you haven't any longer been able to conceive and it continues to be a question for you (her speaking yet you no longer with the flexibility to hearken to) curiously you have been purely reviewing your concern in attempting to appreciate it. relax, have exciting attempting to make a infant and it will ensue. you're putting too plenty tension on your self to accomplish.

I would check into any medicines that he may be taking. My daughter had an extreme reaction to cold medicine, similar to what you are describing. The dangerous ingredient is Pseudoephedrine. Please read the article below.
Regular dreams are not usually as graphic. In regular dreams, you can control them. For example, if someone is attacking you, dream a hole, and drop them in. In drug-related dreams, the kind of effect you describe occurs.

The dreams don't necessarily mean anything, but it sounds like he's in great distress. Get him to the doctor. He needs something to help him relax.

I don't think the dreams themselves actually mean anything -- BUT -- I would guess he has problems with anxiety that are causing him to have disturbing dreams
