I have been on many different types of birth control, and out of all of them there is only one I would ever suggest. Nuva Ring. I'm sure you've heard of it. It isn't painful whatsoever (most people have that misconception), you don't have to worry about taking a pill each day, and there aren't all of the side effects (weight gain). I haven't heard anything good about Ortho Tri Cyclen. Pretty much all of my friends have been on that and have had bad side effects. I would definitely ask about Nuva Ring...or just try it for a month or two. I love it! Good luck!

I would have to say if you really want to stay with pills talk to your doctor about some of the newer ones like YAZ or the shorter period pill, but i would stay away from the mini pill it can cause a lot of break thru bleeding as can the shot until you adjust. As far as other methods there are iud's they make them plastic and copper last for five years there is the ring.
I have 2 kids and when breastfeeding i tried the mini pill its the only pill to take when breastfeeding worked fine for 3 month or so then caused many episodes of unexpected bleeding. Took depo after my 2 kid and on the 2 shot i got tired of the unexpected bleeding so i went back to the ortho tri cyclen that is different colors which has worked fine so my suggestions are above and talk to your doctor about what is right for you and good luck

well, have you considered the nuva ring? i have a friend who likes that.

i would recommend the mirena IUD, but they usually want you to have had at least one child first...i think that make the uterus a little larger?? anyway, you still may be a candidate. ask your doc about it. it is more effective than a tubal or vasectomy and it has practically zero margin for error. it's inserted into your utreus and only affects your uterus. so, no weight gain, no mood swings, etc.
now, i will say, i had Monster cramps the first 1.5 days and had to take lots of motrin, but they passed and now i don't even know it's in there. it's nice. birth control for up to 5 years...no fuss. some women even stop getting their period with it. i just had my first and i bled a tiny bit for 1 day and that was it. NICE!!!!!

so, ask your dr. about the mirena IUD, or the nuva ring.

take care.

Ask your doctor for a lower dose birth control pill, and if he doesn't then find another doctor.
Birth control is a lot of artificial hormones and some womens bodies can't handle it. When I was on bc, I felt like I had PMS 24-7. Def. keep away from the shot.

Well there is the Nuva ring. It is a rubber type ring that sits over your cervix and releases its medicine to keep you from getting pregnant. Another option is an IUD (intrauterine device). It is a "T" shaped plastic device that your doctor inserts into your uterus. It is permenant for up to 5 years. I would go talk with your doctor to ask about all the risks and benefits of starting a new BC. He/she will let you know whats best for you.

I can't take birth control either, something about the estrogen levels in it, they make something called the "mini pill" that is just progesterone and much easier on your system. You'd have to talk to your doc about it. I don't use it, I use the Mirena system but that's because I already have a baby :)

(well i DID use the mirena system and will be going back to it after I have this baby hehe, he was planned! no worries hehe )

Best of luck!

most hormonal bc will do this. maybe an i.u.d?
i've never tried one, but my sister in law has one and swears by it. or you could try low dose birth control. i know how you feel. i've been on the depo shot for two years and hate it for the same reasons as you. i've been looking into making a switch. talk to your doctor about the i.u.d. it might work for you.

try switching to ortho tri cyclen low instead of high, see how much of a difference you get.
