It was a few years ago that I first spotted pears on a salad, usually pared with walnuts. At the time I thought it was exotic (and delicious) but I see it more often now, not sure if it's old news. Then there's a salad that is basically a whole avocado delicately shaped into a bowl and filled with grapefruit. Of course any salad that says avocado automatically gets my vote.
