Always inflate tires according to the instructions on the vehicle plate. There will be a metallic plate or label on either driver or passenger side doorpost. Open the door(s), find the plate, and inflate/deflate the tires to the proper pressure.
Be aware that some cars/trucks have differing pressures from front to rear.

max air pressure is what the tire should be inflated to when cold. when a tire is not inflated to that amount, such as five pounds less, the tire wears quicker and can actually hbe dangerous at highway speeds. inflating a tire when hot is not a good idea since the pressure of a tire when cold is several pounds less than the same tire is after an houyr of constant driving. the tire is going to have a higher pressure when hot due to the heat generated during driving. some manufacturers set the recommended tiree pressure lower, not because it is better, but to make the car ride smoothewr. it still causes excessive wear on the tire, is dangerous, and the doifference in the ride is almost unnoticable.

Well it's not good to fill your tires to the max because your tires can explode, especially if you're a crazy driver. I know whenever I take my car to a shop and my tires are at 30psi they say its normal. When It's over a little bit they take air out to make it that. That is under the psi weight. Normally a cars psi is 32-35psi. If you have a tire gage it should tell you we're the tire weight should be at. You definitely don't want the tire to be under, very very bad. Plus the manual to the vehicle should tell you because if your under or over then your gas mileage will be bad.

Max and min should both be listed in tiny hard to read writing on the side of the tire.
I usually shoot for somewhere in the middle. i.e. my tires are listed as 44 MAX p.s.i and I run 37 p.s.i.
40 p.s.i would result in slightly better gas mileage. Not enough to notice, but the theory is there.
32 used to be standard, but newer tires are running around 35-40.
Reading the info in the owners manual of door jam is inaccurate too. Reading the tire is best. Also checking once a month is a good interval with weekly visual checks.
Hope it helps

You are correct...those are the max figures. Most vehicles have a decal with the recommended pressures. Make sure you check and adjust when the tire is cold as it will actually build pressure as it warms up. I usually do mine first thing Sunday mornings after it has been sitting all night.

Each car will require a different tire pressure, based on the model of the car, how and where it is driven, and the model of the tire itself. The pressure to go by is the one printed on the inside of your fuel tank lid or on the inside frame of a door - NOT the one on the tire itself. In fact, the tire is selected to permit safe operation at the pressure suggested by the car manufacturer.

Most tires on passenger cars and mid sized trucks get filled to 32 psi. If your on the highway for a while then the heat will change the psi to the higher side and its not accurate. The tire must be cool when you check it, otherwise expect it to be alittle on the high side.

a good guideline is about 32 psi. this will vary from tire to tire. it also depends on how you load the car. check owners manual, it will tell you correct pressures.

They inflate to Max pressure so that you get a more "sport" handling. Unfortuantely, your ride will be very bumpy.
