Children are the most creative of people.
If we did not spoil that creativity by providing expensive toys then all children would creat their own toys and entertainment.
We have taken that creativity away from children and made them drones to the expensive and technical toys of today, and couch potato's as well.

Your theory is right for the most part....when kids are left to entertain themselves, they tend to develop more creativity and later in life it usually helps them. The only problem with this is the tendency for kids to explore things they really shouldn't explore - unattended and unsupervised. This isn't a problem just for Africans, Indians, Hispanics, or Whites. It's a problem for any child who doesn't have the parental involvement. If they've got that, then feel free to tell your kids, "I don't know" when they ask "I don't have anything to do, what can I do?" You'll be helping them.
On the flip side, lots of kids benefit from the technology they play with. Science kits. Organizers. Microscopes. Remote controlled robots you can program to dance and move certain ways. My kid learned colors, letters, and basics at 2 1/2 years old thanks to great computer programs. My son-in-law would take anything when it was broken and take it apart. He learned all about mechanics and how things work together to produce a result.
Now my kid is 8 and is learning all about the outdoors - we live on a farm - so he spends LOTS of time outside without toys or other fancy gadgets.

Not a fair question because American kids do and can invent their own toys and African parents do buy toys for their children. Not all Africans are poor and not all Americans are rich.
Haven't you ever heard the saying, necessity is the mother of invention?

It all depends on what you do with the toys. You can be creative with either kind. Creativity comes from the mind.
