Hello All! I am 5 weeks pregnant and my Doc dosen't want to see me until I am 8 weeks along. Beside not taking meds, eating right, taking prenatals and no caffiene is there anything I should know or expect. I feel like I am on my own and I don't want to do anything that could harm the baby. Any Advise??

just do like you said eat right, dont smoke or drink and drink plenty of water, its just a few more weeks until you see the doctor, that is usually how they do it anyway, so you'll be fine promise!
congrats and good luck

you should also start taking a folic acid supplement to help the neural development of the feotus - ask your phramacist for a 400mg folic acid supplement. If you are worried your diet might not be the best you get vitamin supplements specially designed for pregnancy.

Expect some nausea, fatigue, light-headedness, although not everyone gets any or all of these symptoms. If you do, ginger biscuits or ginger tea can help, as can eating small meals reguarly rather than 2 or 3 big meals a day.

Things to avoid: blue / unpasteurized cheese, liver, soft-cooked or raw eggs (eg in ome-made mayonnaise), hot baths (warm is fine), jacuzzis, steam rooms, saunas. Don't panic if you have eaten or done some of these, they are just guidelines and not the end of the world!

And most importantly - RELAX!!! All the best for a happoy and healthy pregnancy.

I felt the same way when I was 5 weeks. It seems like they leave you to figure things out on your own during the critical stage of your babies development. I would advise you to get plenty of rest and try not to worry to much. During the first 12 weeks I was a nervous wreck thinking that something would go wrong. When I went to my 8 week appt. my blood pressure was high from worrying to much which is not good for you or the baby. So take it easy and enjoy this time because it goes fast. I'm 30 weeks now and I can still remember my first visit like it was yesterday..

I had to wait a while before I could see my doctor as well. Why don't you sign up for websites like babycenter.com or pregnancyweekly.com? They have lots of helpful information for you, and also boards where you can communicate with other women. Every little thing will probably freak you out until then, but these sites were very helpful and useful for me!

it is a trying and confusing time, especially if it's your first. I was thesame way, esp as my doctor just did an ultra sound, confirmed i was pregnant, and prescribed materna all in 10mins and charged $300.00.

i nchanged doctors immediately and joined the clinic. look in your area for a pregnant womens/ womens club, health clinic, etc for support. you will need it.

the best book to read is - what to expect when expecting. if you can get your hand on a copy.

the net is also a wealth of info once you type in magic words.

enjoy your pregnancy and the life blooming in you, beware of advice (every pregnancy is different) and good luck.

I wasn't seen until I was 8 weeks as well. Just enjoy the feeling and the happiness, take plenty of water and rest, rest, rest, rest! don't do any crazy activity and try to get spoiled. It will NEVER be the same when you are pregnant with baby No 2.

My doctor also didnt' want to see me until I was 8 weeks along. I just took my prenatals and continued my life as normal (minus drinking alcohol of course!) Caffeine is okay as long as it's in moderation. Just live a healthy lifestyle and enjoy your changing body! (that's easier said than done, trust me!)

It's very normal for the doctor to wait until around 8 weeks to see you.... just look forward to hearing your baby's heartbeat when you do go!!

As far as what to do... it sounds like you've gotit figured out... common sense really... I would maybe go by a pregnancy book... "What to Expect When Your Expecting" was good, a little out-dated but helpful!!

I had a friend who got preggo and it was office policy not to see their patients until 8 weeks along. Seemed weird to me, my OB/Gyn always told me if you get a positive test or are late, call and they will get you in. If you can get another Dr. , I would unless you are totally comfy with this one. But if this is your first preggo which It sound like it is, Just carry on. Exercise lightly, dont let yourself get out of breathe. Eat and drink like you are suppose to. And enjoy being preggo. Go to Babycenter.com to get advice on preggo questions too. Congrats!

You are fine, most Dr's don't see the patient until 8-10 weeks along. Just live healthy, no drinking or smoking and you are doing great.
Congrats!!
