Many Positive contributions were made by the British in India.
1. India was actually a number of small kingdoms , they UNITED THEM into one country.
2. English Language.There were so many languages and dialects in India , they made a common language.
This has helped us to communicate with the rest of the world and become what we are today. English has been the Gateway of success of lakhs of people who are NRIs today and the IT BOOM. Doctors and Engineers.Writers (Booker's prize winners).
3.Schools. The good education
4. Railways that have connected India to the remotest of places.
5. Roadways
6.Governence.
7. Laws and Justice.
8. Democracy by teaching us the election system.and the Parliament system of Government.
9.They left beautiful buildings and taught us how to construct them.
10 City Planning--- Delhi was planned by Sir Lutens. with wide roads and trees on all the avenues, Parks and roundabouts.
Actually they laid the foundation for a better India.

I guess the railways they have built had a tremendous influence on the Indian economy after independence.. Also the educational system they have introduced in India has helped us a lot..
