If you have any income, you can file. If you have income over a certain limit, then you're required to file. That limit depends on a number of things, and can be as low as $400 (if your income was from self-employment) or as high as $18,900 (married couple filing a joint return, both age 65 or older). For a single person, not a dependent of anyone else, no self-employment income, you must file if your income is over $8450.

Yes you can, and even if you don't get any money on the return, you will have the experience you will need each year of your working life from now on.

Go to your local library or post office and pick up a copy of the 1040EZ form and your local state return. Then using your W-2's or 1099 forms that you received from your employer, carefully fill out the tax forms, make a copy for your records (keep at least 5 years forms on file), and send them off before April 15th.

You could use a tax service (like H&R Block)or tax software, but you probably did not make enough this first year to justify their costs.
