Oil massages with Coconut oil or cocoa butter should do the trick. You can gently wash the scalp with a cloth. I don't use a lot of heavy products on babies. Their skin is sensitive, they are adjusting to being out here in the air. Just be sure to clean out folds like under the chin (especially when it gets double or triple) and knees and armpits and all the little places that things can get sticky. Like milk that has missed the mouth. Burt's Bees has a nice baby oil, nice for moms, too.

If I was you, don't put anything on your newborns dry scalp just let it clear up on it's own because it will. And to wash your newborns hair use baby shampoo.... As for the dry scalp I think it bothers the parents more then it bothers the baby. Seriously it will clear up on it's own thats what I did with my son, just left it alone!!

There's a difference between dry scalp and cradle cap - dry scalp is literally dry skin that's flaking off and cradle cap looks like yellow-brownish **** that you can scrape off with your nails. For dry scalp, use a mild baby shampoo - a shampoo and conditioner combo works best. Wash your baby's hair no more than every 3 days. And wash his hair last, right before you take him out of his bath. This way the head gets less contact with water, because water can dry out the scalp. My pediatrician said to rub a little olive oil on your baby's head when he goes to sleep . For cradle cap, you can buy specially formulated shampoo.... Good luck!

Use baby oil and lots of it, for dry scalp and cradle cap. And you can use a brush for cradle cap. I have learnt these things from my mom who is a mother of four, and I am a mother of three. Give a bath every 3 days, wash baby's hair with a baby shampoo, I use Gerber. Then afterwards put baby oil on the head. After the baby oil is on, you can use a gentle soft baby brush and you will see all the flakes or cradle cap come off. It remedies the situation very quickly.

in my country we 'oil' the baby. take coconut oil or regular baby oil and massage the baby, including the head and especially pull toward the soft spot at the 'mole' of the head.
there are also moisturizing baby shampoos.
DO NOT COMB OR BRUSH OUT DRY SCALP. You will pull the baby's tender scalp off. Just be patient, unless it's an actually scalp condition it will go away by a year at most.

I am sorry and this is my opinion only; I think that if you are having to ask these questions online and you don't know about baby shampoo and oils and lotions. I personally think you are to young to have a child; after all you did know you were pregnant and you could have at least read a book or looked at the pictures in a magazine.
