Al Frankin filed for bankruptsy - Why because not a single company would advertise on that Radio Show for 1.5 years. Now the Fairness Doctrine Surfaces. Seems he wants a share of time for balance on Conservative talk radio or he is going to file a lawsuit. So here you go he flops on all left radio so he wants to stop right radio.

if you have ever listened to air america you would find that its no surprise that it flops. rep. hinchey is spewing communist garbage about the fairness doctrine and the state taking over the media, its all insanity. if the american people buy into something that horrific, i dont know what will become of america. it would be like russia, can you imagine the government controlling what music, talk, and movies we see? what about freedom of speech, the first amendment of the constitution? i am amazed and when he speaks, people hate bush so much, the applaud him. they do not know what they are doing, they are so blinded by hate. it really is unbelievable.

My friend, I believe you have some labels in your question that are wrong. Try this, why is the socialist media failing whereas the moderate unbiased road media is thriving? Phrased that way the reason is crystal clear, Americans reject socialism. The left has gone so far left that the center looks right wing anymore. You did forget to mention the precipitous decline in shareholder value of the NYT over the past six years, it is probably going to be the next bankruptcy. The link below clearly shows the decline and it has been most severe since 1993 when clitoon was elected and then progressed more when America rejected the socialist congress in 1994 and then of course once the hate bush mantra of the socialists began, it became the death knell for the socialist media.

His show was boring. The right wing radio guys pump you up with good music and then launch right into their spiel with energy.

I like Al, but he just had the dullest show on radio, which is too bad. We liberals need something worth listening to on the radio, besides all the cranks out there bashing us day in and day out.

I don't know much about the Fairness doctrine, but it sounds silly. I may not agree with a lick of what Rush and Hannity spew, but hey it's their show and they can say what they want.

For the news deprived Air America will be coming out of Bankruptcy since they now have a buyer, Air America Radio, in Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings since October, will be rescued at the 11th hour by Manhattan real estate developer Stephen L. Green.

Al Franken, the best-known host of the liberal network, will announce his expected departure on his show later today, to explore a run for the U.S. Senate from Minnesota.

Green is the brother of Mark Green, the New York Democrat who served as the city's public advocate in the 90s and ran for mayor against Michael Bloomberg in 2001.

He has already signed a letter of intent, and plans to finalize a purchase agreement within the week.

Air America CEO Scott Elberg confirmed the sale. "This is a great thing, for our affiliates, the company, the audience and every employee in our organization."

Green is chairman of SL Green Realty Corp, a real estate investment trust specializing in office buildings with a market cap of $12 billion.

Brother Mark is a frequent guest on Air America, and sat in for David Bender, the host of the Air America show Politically Direct, for a couple of weeks earlier this month.

When Franken leaves the network in a few weeks, he'll be replaced by Thom Hartmann, who already has a syndicated show on the network's lineup.

Air America in general is failing because liberals just aren't very entertaining on radio. Listening to Frankin was painful.
Now with the fairness doctrine, the left wishes to get back at the conservatives by pulling this. The only free speech that they believe in is their own..

Ahh, this must be from the "Rush News".

It's "Franken", nor "Frankin".

No, Air America (Piquant LLC) filed, not Franken.

It's "bankruptcy", not "bankruptsy".

Franken is leaving Air America, they owe him about $360k.

All this was back in October 2006.

Fairness Doctrine? Franken has made some brief remarks about it in the past, but unless you can find some reasonably current references to facts, I'll have to chalk this up to just more paranoid delusional right-wing goose-stepping.

Sorry to take your scapegoat away from you, but Liberals since the 60s have been led by ignorant born-rich snobs who hate democracy just as much as the Republicans do. They are unconscious agents provocateurs.

I think that's because liberals just aren't into talk AM radio. Rush has soured it for all of us, and we watch CNN and listen to NPR. Al should get a prime time NPR show. That would get ratings.

if you cant get the peoples hearts and minds with your message/ideology, then subversively hold control with the courts, schools, media, and now they are pushing for the fairness doctrine to break the radio.

Liberals who love freedom are against free enterprise and free markets. The only way the are successful is if they have a monopoly. The used to have a monopoly on cable news, then Fox came along and is kicking CNN's and MSNBC's a**es. Liberals are really fascists who want to impose their beliefs on everyone else.
