Why is the study of geology so important?

Geolgoy is relevant to flood control, hurricane protection through the activities that affect marshlands, landslides, earthquakes, tsunamis, the flow of contaminants through groundwater, the evolution of life as we know it, the extraction of petroleum, natural gas, and other mineral resources, coal mining, slope stabilization, highway design, reservoir construction, building codes, commercial stone quarrying, highway bed fill, and so much more.

It actually is one of the few things that is always present in our lives. Everything you see-every man made structure, every landscape, every plant and animal, is affected by the geology underlying it and the nutrients that the rocks themselves provide as they break down into soil. It's pervasive. Also, it's really interesting and diverse.

Geology is the study of the Earth from the center to the surface.
You study rocks and formations and earthquakes and craters, and anything have to do with these topics.
Geology is important because we need to know what our earth is doing at all times and how to use what it contains for energy. Many times Geologists work with the process of drilling for oil, coal deposits, geothermal, radioactive areas and more. The Earth holds vast areas of rock, minerals, fossils and more that we can use to heat our homes or for gas for our cars. The Earths formations are valuable in learning about what our world could look like in 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 or 100 years from now. Geologists can figure this out first hand by things happening now and from the past.
Earthquake prediction is very valuable and so is Tsunami predictions. They can save lives and often do.
