There are so many variables here:
Your problem, the surgery type (bone, nerve or muscle), your physical condition (how you heal, whether you have osteoporosis, etc) and what you have to do in your job. If I would hazzard a guess it would be 4 months (MINIMUM) for a generally taxing physical job.

Well I just had a brain surgery in November I was out of work for 2 months because my job is very pysical and I could not lift anything heavier then a milk jug. I'd say for a spinal surgery you would be off of work longer then me unless everything went ok and you recoverd well then maybe less or about that time frame.Ive never had spinal surgery but its very risky and Im sure you would need a lot of time off.
