I hit a HUGE pothole this weekend. About an hour later I saw tha a tennis -ball sized bubble had formed on the tire. What happened and is this serious???

Some of the belts are broken inside your tire. This is very dangerous and the tire needs to be replaced immediately.

Go somwhere at get the tire changed. It will not last. Better to get it fixed before it blows as apposed to having to change the tire on the side of the road somewhere.
Sounds like the belt broke in the tire. This is not fixable. Just change the tire. Drive slowly, and directly to a repair place.

So as you can see from the above answers you need to replace the tire.
To your question of what happened?
when your hit that pothole you compressed the sidewall of the tire between the rim and the pothole... pinching the inside liner of the tire. Now air is trying and will escape through that pinch/hole.

Yes this is very serious.
You have broken a belt in the tire and the tire may get you to a shop for replacement or not. It can blow out at any moment.

I would advise you to get it fixed or else it will blow up. Since it is on the side you will need a new tire. Just do not drive to fast with it or you will be needing a rim also. Put the spare on and go to a tire place. Bring money,check or credit card

Its very serious. Take it off, put on the spare, and get the tire replaced right away. Dont even drive on it, because it will blow.

youre going to need a new tire..the sidewall has been compromised and when you drive on it may blow out
