Here's a map of the CTA system (mass transit in the Chicago area). It'll help you find the best way to get there.

Of course, the "L" train is called that because it's "elevated", not underground. It does start underground at O'Hare and has a few other sections that are underground, but all of it is above ground in the downtown area.
Good luck!

Your directions are correct, with one exception. The Washington red line station is closed for renovations, so you must transfer at Jackson rather than Washington.
It will take you about 45 minutes to get from O'Hare downtown. When you get off the blue line at Jackson, walk toward the front of the train. There is a free well-lighted underground tunnel connecting the red and blue lines there. You walk one block (between State and Dearborn streets) to the red line. You'll ride one stop south to Harrison.
The Harrison station is in the subway beneath State Street, two blocks west of Michigan. Walk east on Harrison to Michigan, and turn left. Your hotel should be right there, on the west side of the street. The neighborhood around Harrison station is not the best (once quite seedy, but rapidly gentrifying), but it's a very short walk.

Take the blue line train from O'Hare downtown and get off at the Jackson stop. Walk to the underground passageway (ask somebody) and go to the Red Line tracks. Take the southbound Red Line train to Harrison (I believe it's the very next stop) and walk up stairs and out of the subway. Walk east to Michigan and then south to the hotel.
if you're not sure you're going on the right train or walking in the right direction, ask somebody.
The blue line train from O'Hare starts above ground and eventually goes underground. The section of red line train you'll be taking is all underground. But the red line train has both underground and aboveground sections. All the other train lines are above ground.

No need to get fiesty. The L is the ELEVATED TRAIN. Though you are right that there is some underground action, the majority of their path is not underground.
Use the CTA trip planner and figure out your best route.
http://tripsweb.rtachicago.com/ I got blue line to Lasalle, and walk .6 of a mile to your destination. Jackson would probably be just as close/far. Or you can transfer at Clark to the red/brown...whichever.
Personally, I cab it from O'hare when I want to get someone. It costs more, but with weather and such...it's easier.
Good Luck!
EDIT: Ya know what--SCRATCH that. I just went to the Hilton website. They have their own directions. Click and scroll down. http://www1.hilton.com/en_US/hi/hotel/CHICHHH-Hilton-Chicago-Illinois/index.do

Yes, you can take the "L". When your on the blue line the train will announce it over the p.a. transfere to cta redline. The blue and red lines are underground in downtown. Have a great time.

You can take the train but if you have a lot of luggage I would not recommend it stairs etc its a pain. I usually take the ride share. It is located in baggage claim it will make multiple stops at different hotels but it is half the price of a cab.
