I have an 11 month old son & i am recieving £50 from his father who earns £360 a week and only pays £30 rent to his girlfriends parents. I struggle with the debt he has left me with because i foolishly put it in my name and he wont pay me anymore than £50 a week. If i went to the CSA would i get less? Is it worth the risk applying? I work part time and am claiming every benefit i should be but because of my debt i am struggling.

Warning ... do not go to the csa ever. deadly serious, if this man is not man enough to help you out of debt he created he will not be man enough to be honest with the csa....the csa have totally ballsed up my maintence for my two kids and ive had a long long wait to see any of it. just take the 50 quid, which is a fair amount for one child. believe me its really not worth taking the risk through csa...they cause heartache all the way.

I would have thought for one child, 30 % of his take home pay ( before rent, car payments etc) would be more like it.

If he accepts it's his child, 100 a week isn't so much.

But if you involve the CSA then NOBODY will win, apart from the CSA of course.

You'd be better just mentioning to him that 50 is not enough, you need more .

It's worth contacting the CSA to find out how much you are entitled to but it's a LOT more than 50 a week.

I notice he is staying with his mummy and daddy. If you involve the CSA things cound get nasty.

Another thing to be aware of, is that perhaps he is paying you in CASH. He will be paying cash so there is no record of his having made maintenance payments. This gives him a stronger bargaining position.

£50 a week is loads. My ex paid £13 a week through CSA. Only contact them if he stops paying. You're on to a good thing there.

DO NOT CONTACT CSA. you will end up with less, my ex is on £30,000 salary and I'm lucky if I get £25.00 per week from the CSA, if you get any more from him the benefit agency will take it away, if you are only on benefits you will get £5pw child support money and the rest of his money goes to the government.

I think you have got a fair deal Hun. CSA is a waste of time and you will get 10% of his take home pay for one child.

Life IS a struggle, we are all in the same boat, Keep things friendly with him tho'.

Good luck Hun. XX.

CSA are a waste of time, full of c'#p!!!!
Maybe sit down and work out exactly what you need every week to keep your little one comfortable and then approach the subject with the dad, maybe if he saw in black and white how much kids cost he might even offer to give you more!
The CSA work it out on how many nights your ex has kid this is how my ex got his payment reduced from 350pm to 120pm!!!
Told them to shove it up his a'#e!!!!

Just be happy with the £50, if you go to the csa he may decide to give you nothing, then what will you do?Don't rock the boat (for your own sake.)

I know absolutely nothing about the UK- so the rest of my answer should be only glanced at not accepted as golden. The average in the US is 17% of income for 1 child (yours is 14.3%) and its to care for the child and not based upon the custodial parents debt.

Does he spend time with the child and spend funds on him/her that could relieve you of the burden of some expenses?

50 pounds a week is about $110 American. Consider yourself lucky! I only get $100 a month for a 5 year old girl, and he hasn't paid me in over two months. You are getting about 15% of his weekly income. Consider having this agreement in writing because if he ever loses his job he won't pay you anymore.
