Some monitors have dual display inputs. On the front of the monitor there should be two buttons labeled 1 & 2 or something similar. If the monitor does not have dual inputs try the following:
1. Shut the computer down and unplug it from the wall
2. Unplug the monitor from the wall
3. Reconnect the power cables and see if all is well
Other than that the monitor, video adpter, or mainboard may be faulty. Best way to figure out if it is the display is to try it on another computer.

OK its plugged in and turned on. Try undoing and replugging your vga cord just to make sure they are well connected. Did it make a POP or a POW sound, that would be a broken capacitor.
Do you have children, they may have turned down the brightness on the knob on the bottom. If none of this works then you have a bad Cathode Ray Tube, not worth fixing, take it to the toxic waste disposal as you go to the store to buy an LCD monitor.

Sounds like it could be one of two things, the graphics card could be bad which is the most likely case, or the monitor may have gone bad. I would start with the graphics card.

It happened to me also, the PC vendor took it and he opened the monitor, after checking,he found that the transformer had burnt and a ic had also gone, after replacing both,it worked.
He had given me a servicing monitor meanwhile.
The reason he gave was HIGH VOLTAGE.

normally if it blinks it had an issue or needs reset. normally there is a button or a place under the options to reset it. My old one had it and I can't recall the name for the reset for the life of me. Was an odd word.

If your monitor's not on, how can you tell your "CPU" is? Maybe all you can tell is, your computer's fan is on, and you have some *real* problem!
