The isolation was a killer for me. Plus the low status of homemakers in America.

The lack of respect that you get from those who aren't homemakers (and occasionally your own husband!). That is the most challenging part for me. When people make comments like, "oh, you don't work?" when I tell them that I am a stay at home mother. Or when my husband has his "slip of the tongue" moments, when he'll say something like, "well, I worked hard all day!" With the emphasis on the word "I". Like, he is implying that I do NOT work hard all day simply because my work is inside the home. People don't understand that a homemaker wants to feel that their work is appreciated and has made a difference, just has much as people who work a job want that same "pat on the back". Those negative comments are very belittling. That is pretty hard, I really take it to heart sometimes and let it upset me. I know I work hard all day and night too sometimes!! I worked before I ever had children and I worked like 50-60 hour weeks and I am more tired now that I stay home then I ever was when I worked that job. Being a homemaker is a 24/7 job, you are not done at 5 pm and you don't have days off, it is very demanding. Especially when you also throw caring for your children into the mix, I have 3 children, two of which are home with me all day. When the housework is all done and that last child is asleep, I just about collapse into bed!!

Well lets see... This is a toughy.... I would say at times i wish i could get out more often but my husband usually takes me places when he gets home and we go shopping and out to eat and things like that..... I am generally a very happy and upbeat person and i love my life.... Can get a little boring at times but so can work and life...

being at home. homemakers should be a profession. it is a tedious job that is underpaid and under appreciated. the children needs you, it will be alright.
