I mean, for instance, i was on youtube just now when i notice some of the people on there saying "rap is not real music" or other opinions they have badly on rap. but do you think these people have actually gotten to listen to the music before they judge it?
not all rap talks about how much money a person has, or how many women a guy has slept with, or how "kool" they are.
listen to things they DONT play on the radio before you make assumptions.
the same thing goes for people who dont listen to rock or metal or dance or even techno. dont judge the genres if you havent took the time to listen to it!
as i have said before, only someone naive would limit theirself to only one or two music genres, because there is so many out there to be found.

not all rap has sampled beats. some of what you hear on the radio can be sampled, but east coast rap tends to sample beats more than any other region where rap is located.
and yes i do agree that some artists do sample music way too much.
thats why i stated that you should listen to what they do NOT play on MTV, or what they dont play on the radio. just because you hear a few sampled songs on the radio does not give you the right to judge the genre.

Dude i do really really agree with the words you say about this.
Every music is this world is a thing that we should respect. Music is an art, so we have to give more respect to it. and i am really hate if many people judge any music, they say this music is crap, this music is bad, this music is satanic music, this music is not real music. And all of that is nonsense. People should listen to the music before they judge it. And even they have listened to the music and they have no authority to say that this music is like what they say. Who they think they are !!! right. Why should they judge the music like that !!!! Maybe they think they are a music expert or something like that. If anybody love the music so much, then i guaranted that they will not judge any music at all. Cause every music have their own unique and their own soul.
Hail to you to say about this. I do really agree with you.
Please respect any music.

I mean how can you say it is real music when there is no melody and the music used most of the time is sampled from someone else's work?
I listen to rap on occasion, and the Beastie boys when they first came out were great, they rapped to their own actual music. They also had something to say and it had some melody to it. Run DMC actually paid homage to Aerosmith with Walk This Way.
It is simply poetry set to a beat, nothing wrong with that in and of itself. The one thing that upsets me is that there doesn't seem to be much homage to the original artist that the music was sampled from. For instance, when the rapper is interviewed about their new rap, why not just come and thank the original artist they sampled from. That almost never happens and the new generation misses out on what the rapper was inspired by.

People who say rap is not real music have never listened to UGK or old David Banner, there are so many rap songs with a lot of meaning behind them and a message that they want to get out. A lot of the new stuff is all about money and hoes but you have to take the time out to listen to it to find the good.

I have a lot respect for: Cypress Hill, Gorillaz, Dr Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Parazitii, 2PAC, Missy Eliot, Bustarimes, TI
They sound good but not as good as up above: 50 CENT, NAS, P Daddy, Ciara, Ashanti, Akon, G-Unit, Lill John

A lot of it seems to have too much of the F and N words in it. I can walk to the mailbox at my apartment complex and hear that all day long.
I don't say it's not real music, but it's music that I prefer not to listen to.
Nelly is the exception. Love him.

I'm not a "fan" of rap. But I'm a jazz musician and listen to a wide variety of genres. Many of the rap artists are very skilled and I would classify many of them more as a poet or rythmic artists/writers than "musicians". But I also don't classify many singers as musicians either, allthough they are backed up by skilled musicians.
All and all- Rap is a skillful art made up of very talented artists, producers, writers, background singers, and musicians. And they are usually more talented than most "Country" artists!!

I like *some* rap and I have actually listened to a lot of it, but I'm sorry, I just don't think it takes a lot of talent to make some rhymes. And a lot of rap songs are remakes of classic old songs, which I don't think it right. If I like a rap song, it's usually because of the beat and not the lyrics.

Aaron,
I hate to say it, but a LOT of the folks who hate rap music have a racial problem with it. Basically, they hate rap music because it's an art form invented by and largely performed by African Americans.
If African Americans were listening to opera, these same people would be saying the same thing "it's not real music"!

It is music. If people dont like a genre then they shouldn't openly bash something about it...
Music is music to someone, who says we all have to like the same stuff?
