Everyone heals differently. When the doctors tell you 4 weeks, that is just the average healing time and most people would recommend you wait that long because even though your ankle feels good enough to play, it might still be weak to endure the different type of pressure it will go through during a course of a basketball game.

My suggestion is go through your rehab, put strength back into your ankle and take the time to get back to playing. YOU DONT WANT TO REINJURE IT AND END YOUR SEASON. That is the coach's worst nightmare. At least it is mine.

Eveyone heals differently. A good test that a trainer I know uses is this... stand with equal weight on both feet, bend your knee on the leg that is not hurt so you're standing with all your weight on just your hurt ankle, then bend that knee like you're doing a one legged squat. If it hurts and you almost fall over, your strength and balance aren't back, yet.

A good way to rehab a sprained ankle is by doing exercises with a thera band, and icing it... a lot. Fill a bucket or clean garbage can with ice and cold water. Sit with your foot in it for about 10 to 15 minutes. It hurts at first, but you'll notice a huge difference in the amount of swelling.

i would Waite and do what your doctor says. i sprained my ankle in basketball and it was terrible. i didn't go to the doctors because me and my mom know it was just a sprain. tho i looked up how bad it was sprained it and it was about a 3 sprain. i went back in 2 week and my ankle was still swollen but i still played. but if you go back to soon then you might just brake it. and then it will be even longer till you get back.sorry about your luck!
