My dears, you know nothing about it until you get there. I’m over sixty and I’ve discovered that I prefer solitude. I do what I want, when I want. I have friends I see or at least keep in touch with but I wouldn’t trade this new freedom for Ben Browder moving in!

I have no problem living alone.
I have several nieces and nephews so there is a younger generation of family for me to interact with.
I have friends most of which are older than I but I'm sure I will start collecting some younger friends as I will be studying computer sciences soon.
They are of varying ages and they all still enjoy talking with me probably because once they are about 9 or 10 years old I talk to them just as I would any other person with real opinions and perspectives.
I also serve as an almost constant source of challenge t o their intellect. In return they inform me of the new information they are learning every day.
But as far as day to day life I have no problem being alone and already talk to the cat, the dog, the TV and myself (I am just that entertaining).

I am not afraid to live alone when I get older. I am more afraid of being old with no friends or family, especially around the holidays.

Am I afraid? No, I'm not afraid, but I prefer not to live alone when I'm old. My mother in law lived alone when she was getting sick, she died in the facility, because the children could not take care of her at the regular households. It was too dangerous for her without medical equipments and staff. She lived alone, but she had her children close by. I would like my daughter to be closer to me, or me closer to her, if my husband died before me.

Sorry the lack of not having a partner or a relationship at an older age does make me wonder and gets me a bit scared...why, because not having someone there to enjoy the good moment when the bad is kinda sad don't you think???

I've lived alone for most of my life. As I get older (I'm 43) I do wish I had someone to come home to (other than the cat). Believe me, it's not from a want of trying, either. But in reality it's not so much the living alone that bothers me; it's the dying alone that frightens me.
I believe that there are some people in this world who are destined to live (and die) alone, whether by choice or circumstance. I count myself as one of them.

I don't think I would be afraid but saddened because me and my significant other just started to date but have known each other for a while and we are not young anymore and she is not at her best health so I would definitely feel cheated from lack of years to spend with her.In other words, I feel that I don't have all the time in the world, it's really never enough. But the time we do spend together.... we try to make it like it's the last.

Yes, the idea of being alone scares me. I've never been alone for more than a few months, and I hated it. I really don't know the reason why I'm scared of it. Maybe some therapy would help./

Actually, I've thought about this, and I think I'd like the alone time for a few months, then I'd started talking to the cat.

I assume I will die before my husband. I do worry about HIM being alone later. But he will have our families. I do kind of wonder if I died if he would find someone new. We have talked about it and he told me that he would not be interested in finding someone else if I died. He says he will enjoy the rest. ( I can be a handful)
