Who is the best hollywood actor?

While watching a movie among friends, someone asked who the best hollywood actor is? I used to have a book that listed the best actors in hollywood but I lost it, but Im pretty sure the book said that George Clooney is the best hollywood actor. Im pretty sure that that is the answer, but wondering if anyone can confirm.

Big difference, Hollywood does not play with your money if you want to go watch a movie or buy a movie nobody forces you. But you will need a loan for a car, education, mortgage and so on ... that is why these crooks make so much money because they deal with what is a necessity for the common citizen. On top of capping the CEO salaries Obama should have a task force investigate those who made this financial crumbling possible by being greedy and have them held accountable and punished by the law. You cannot tell me that a bank lend billions to unsolvable lenders without someone raising the flag. They HAD to know. and for that they should pay because at the end of the day their important role in our economy gets them a bailout while the little guys lose everything: jobs, houses, stocks etc. these CEO continue to roll the high life regardless and that is simply not fair.

Current and Bankable, as this changes quite a lot ... I would say Russell Crowe or Sean Penn. They can get a movie made and they have the skills and range to take on almost any role. They are always good, even in sub par movies and despite their own temper tantrums. George Clooney is a force to be reckoned with as he acts, produces and directs. He has crafted a unique and profitable career for himself, tailor made to his strengths. He is a good actor, but doesn't have the range of the other two. George is smart though, and knows this, picks his projects well.

As you said "Hollywood" I went with movie stars/actors...there are plenty of very talented indie actors as well.

If it's not him then it's definitely Stalone. Clooney is top ten, sure but there's a helluvalotta guys ahead of Clooney before you get to the likes of Stalone. EG. Kevin Bacon, Ben Afflek and his half-brother Matt Da Moune and not forgetting, of(f!!!) course, Wesley Snipes.

Granted, Clooney was brilliant in that film about beastiality starring Tom Cruise as a rabid dog so, OK, I'll put him in at number three behind the puppet and the steroid pumped champ Stalone... who happens to also be the greatest boxer of all time.

I guess it depends on your definition of "best actor." I usually define this as an actor who gets totally lost in the character. Unfortunately, most actors today pretty much play themselves on the screen.
