the comment from deviantboy is correct but isn't the answer of your question.

a pentium dual core processor consists of 2 pentium 4 processors (core name presler). it's the old technology.

a core duo processor implements the new core technology (the successor of the pentium M, not the pentium 4 !). the core duo processors are used mainly in notebook computers and have the core name yonah.

the successors of the core duo is the core 2 duo. this processor technology is used in desktops (core name conroe) as well as in notebooks (core name merom).

future:
the successor of the merom will be the penryn (45nm process) and the successor of the penryn will be the nehalem.

I wish to add an brief introduction on features of two processors.

Core 2 is an eighth-generation x86 architecture microprocessor produced by Intel and based on the Intel Core microarchitecture. Core 2 also marks the retirement of Intel's Pentium brand name that has been used from 1993 and the reunion of Intel's notebook and desktop product lines since Pentium M was released apart from Pentium 4 in 2003.
The first wave of Core 2 processors was officially released on July 27, 2006. Like the Intel Core brand that it supersedes, Core 2 currently offers Duo (dual-core) processors, but also Quad (four-core) models.

The Core Duo is a mobile processor that improves on the Pentium M. The Core 2 Duo is Intel's first chip based on the Core Microarchitecture. It boasts the highest x86 performance seen to date, with impeccable performance-per-watt metrics -- perfect for mobile platforms.
the differences are much, with your laptop drop forget about worry breaking board is more flexible, with all the case broken the system continue to work, is superB, and dual processor with strong board
Core Duo technology enables your laptop to multi-task much better and improves response times eg. when you're listening to music, running a virus scan, and surfing the internet at the same time. Definitely get a laptop with Core Duo. If possible, get the 2400 or 2500 model.

Hope this answers your query. All the best.
