Tact is for people that aren't witty enough to be sarcastic. I like that one!

How do you deal with it? If you can't beat them join them. They shouldn't dish it out if they can't take it.

A wise man once told me...

"It is none of my business what you think of me, and it is none of your business what I think of you."

People however... Get very hot and heated in trying to force square pegs into round holes... from very young ages.

People fail to realize that everyone is what they are as a direct result of their life experiences and the knowledge they have gained in how to utilize it so far.

You can tell how someone has been effected in their lives by how they react to outside influence. A smart-***, if looked at from a place of compassion and understanding, from a proper perspective, gives away more of themselves than they take away from anyone they insult, who is intelligent enough not to react to them as a result.

I personally prefer "Mouthy sarcastic and smart-assed." People, to those who would smile through their teeth to your face and rip you apart later, or use more invasive, cowardly tactics to bully, abuse or hurt the people they disagree with, using some things that are more dangerous than just words or attitude... Like hacking, physical confrontation, stalking, stealing, raping or lying about one's character publically.

Words and attitude never hurt anyone that didn't first allow them to, by first agreeing with them and second, becoming defensive as a result.

It's just not possible to hurt someone with words or attitude alone. It's when words take on physical intent to harm that they become dangerous...

and telling the truth, or stating the obvious is not intent to harm.

It really depends on the situation. Why do you have to deal with this person? Boss? Friend of a friend? Server at your favorite restaurant? You need to evaluate the situation and from there handle it accordingly. In some cases, you can justify calling the person out on his/her bad baehavior. In many cases though, it may be better to overlook because of the hell you could end up putting yourself through in the end.

Ignore them and avoid being around them. Some people are just like that and there is nothing that you (or I) can do about it. In some cases it would be benefecial to talk to them and discuss the problem, but most likely it would do nothing except possibly make them angry at you.

Dealt with this in work last week - bloke I work with is constantly asking me questions, then totally dismissing my answers with sarcastic comments and stupid responses.
I politely (well sort of) told him to stop asking me questions if he wasn't going to take a blind bit of notice of my answers and also to stop commenting when I wasn't actually talking to him...at that point my MD and Sales Director rang out of the room in fear and he has been as nice as pie to me since!

You answered your own Q in part. "ignore" and "avoid" such types.

I offer this, a quote of mine, analogous but valid.

"One never satisfies a Monster by feeding it. One only causes it to be more hungry."

Steven Wolf

I'll add another. "One gets much more attention in a whisper than by shouting. All will "struggle" to know what was said in a whisper, but most will block all hearing if shouted at."

I avoid people like that at all times.I don't have to put up with them so I ignore them. I don't even acknowledge them when they come around.

Why would you hang around with them? Change your circle of friends.

confront them about it and let them know it bothers you. if they're still like that, go upside their head.
