It is true that an elephant never forgets, about 40 years ago a man befriended an orphaned elephant whose mother was killed by rotten poachers, he hand-reared the baby elephant and took care of it until the baby could be released back into the wild, this the man did, and they went their separate ways.
During another visit to the same location where the man had released this baby elephant all those years ago, he came across a herd of elephants, you may find this hard to believe, but it is true, among the elephant herd was the same elephant the man had released, the elephant recognised him and went up to him and greeted him, he also recognised this to be the same elephant due to markings on the elephant that he had recorded before he released the elephant.
Fascinating but remarkably true.

An Elephant does have a good memory, but it only remembers the important things that matter. It will remember where there is water when travelling, and where food is available. It will remember areas not to cross because of quicksand or very rocky terrain etc. Age does not diminish their memory.

No, in 1966 I lent an elephant two shillings so that he could buy himself a bun and, do you know, that rotter has never paid me back. When I visit him in the zoo he says he doesn't remember although he cannot look me in the eye.
So, yes, elephants DO forget or else they are pretty good liars!
TRUE!!!
