I've wondered this same thing before, but I think someone above made a good point. If you look, most of the Disney Princesses that people consider the TRUE Disney Princesses are the first ones that came out. This was 50 years ago, and times were different then. All of the "originals" are white.
Aladdin was a little more recent than those and Princess Jasmine is Arabic. More recently Mulan has been made into a princess and she's Chinese. Pocahontas is another princess who's been accepted into the line of princesses and she's definitely not white. I think Disney will eventually make a Disney princess that is of african heritage as well. I think it would sell better now than it would have back in the 1950s. I would love to see a story about an African Princess, I really think it would be cute. And I don't mean just that she would be black... I think they should do it set in Africa. I would totally watch it, and I think that children would appreciate having this kind of princess and learning about the African culture and way of life.
Anyway, if you're really upset about it, perhaps you could write to Disney. I don't think they most likely read everything that comes in, but someone has to. And, if they like the idea, or are reminded of it, they may be more likely to make one.
(I also agree with the comment above about Brandy from the live cast Cinderella. Although in that movie I think they made a bit too big of a deal of having a multi-racial cast. But it is true that Cinderella was played by a black woman. As was her fairy god mother.)

Because Oprah, Bill Cosby, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Magic, and all the other really RICH black people don't GET TOGETHER and WORK on a PROJECT to REALLY IMPROVE the lives of Black people in America.
When that stupid Malcom X movie came out (and they tried to make him into a revised-history as-important-as Martin Luther King Jr), and all the filthy rappers (with them slapping the butts of half-naked SLAVE women) denigrating women and praising "hood" life and to be against society and law, NONE of the ABOVE FAMOUS Blacks really came out and told the producers to $%^$&^ themselves! They don't help the image of Blacks. But do the rich blacks care? No!
It is HIGH TIME that Black people in this country got together and formed a meaningful COALITION to help improve the lives of all Blacks!
Let's get rid of the influence of morons like Louis Ferrakan (sorry, I am not sure of the spelling), and Spike Lee, and all the Snoop Dog dorks that ruin the image of blacks and inspire them to be less than they could be!
Oh, and I am not black. I am white. I grew up thinking that Blacks and Whites were just people. Nowadays, there has been a big reversal, brought about by all the crap from the 90's onward.
And, Brandy, Jackson (Michael), Jackson (politician reverend), Ritchie (both), some basketball and assorted sports players, STOP TAKING DRUGS, ADULTERIZING, GETTING ARRESTED, and doing all the stupid things that bring you down!
Once you are up there, STAY up there!
Please!

Good question! There probably are no black animators at Disney. People tend to be ethnocentric. Black cartoonist create black characters. Black writers write about black people. Maybe Disney will think about it now.

that's a very good question and i'd love to know the answer. i'm assuming that disney feels "jasmine" fills their affirmative action quota on ethnic princesses.
they did a movie in africa, but it was the "Lion king"...no princesses there....
interesting. i'd have to write to disney about that one.....
take care.
P.S.
why didn't they make mulan and pocohantas "princesses" too, so they could make native american and asian dress up clothes???

Uh..guy above me. When someone YELLS "YOU BLACKS" think everything is about racism, it kinda just reaffirms the original point don't you think? And as far as Disney I think he was anti-black, plus back in those days of the original Cinderella, Snow White, etc. if they put a black princess up there they prob. woudl have gone bankrupt because of the boycotts.
