I was wondering what the average amount of time to take off for getting married was. I've read different things on various forums. Some women only took one or two days off, and some women felt they were entitled to two or three weeks. I'm leaning toward two or three weeks, especially because I have the mind set that work should never trump your life. Also, I'm planning on getting married out of state, so I will need more time for travel, etc.

I was wondering what people's experiences are with asking for time off for getting married. Have your bosses been excepting of this new stage in your life? Have they rained on your parade and made you feel guilty for wanting two or three weeks? Have you offered to use one week paid vacation time and opted to take an extra week of unpaid time off?

Ideally, I'd take about seven days paid vacation time and some unpaid time also. I mean, this day only happens once in a lifetime, right?

If you have accrued the time to take it, 10 Business days coupled with two weekends (non working) is absolutely appropriate and should be expected by your employer. Weddings represent a transition in one's life that can be very detailed and require your full attention. Also you have the right to use the vacation time you have as you see fit.

As long you have clearly identified your projects / responsibilities and who can manage them for your in your absence you should be fine. It always depends, but you should feel free to take at least 10 days. That will give you time for the prep/wedding and some time away. As a measure of good faith, you can always say that you can try and make yourself available by cell phone for the first two days as needed, and then for the remainder of the time off be completely unavailable.

I'm getting married just outside of Las Vegas, and I'm from the Pittsburgh region of PA. I am taking off 6 days from work, so I'll have 8 days off total, since I don't work weekends. (I'll have off starting October 10 and will return to work October 18th.)
Our trip is only going to be 5 days, leaving on the 11th and returning the 15th. We gave ourselves a little buffer so that we don't have to rush when leaving or returning.

1 week. If you moan that this is once in a lifetime, some old timer will say that back in his/her day, he/she didn't have a honeymoon. If you take 1 week, try to pick a destination fairly close to home (same country or same hemisphere). If you live in the US and have a destination wedding in Europe, you are going to be exhausted when you get home.

I think that a weekend is long enogh and then when you get a paid vacation go some where and spend time together.. it might be a short time but a better time when you go on a vacation and longer.. its all up to you really.

If you are an intergral part of a project that must be out - be responsible. If you are a receptionist a temp can handle that.

yea id say 2-3 weeks. talk to yuor boss about this as it might be able to go under holiday pay. well, you will be going on holiday.
