It was in the 1992 World Cup in Australia. The first 4 tournaments were played with players wearing their whites. In 1992 the tournament went to Australia who at the time were the only country to really get into coloured uniforms. The trend picked up from there.
In the 1992, 1996 and 1999 World Cups, the host country organised uniforms for all participating countries, as some countries had still not fully gotten into the coloured craze. From the 2003 World Cup on teams have now played in their own kit, as coloured uniforms have now very much become part of the worldwide cricketing scene.

It was in 1992, held in Australia and New Zealand. That was the first time colored clothing was introduced.
Prior to this even the ODIs were played in white clothes, and with red ball.
