They are a complete mess so tread carefully. I've been on the receiving end of the CSA for over 10 years and they can make a real misery of your life. My ex-wife was claiming benefits illegally as I was paying maintenance through the solicitors. When it came to light the CSA took over and she had to repay her benefits although I suspect that I had to pay an increased amount because of this!

You should speak to the Citizens Advice Bureau who will be able to advise you. There are certain solicitors who offer free advice sessions, usually for half an hour. Take advantage of those too.

If you need anymore advice just e-mail me and I'll help where I can.

Good luck!

When you recieve your CSA payments, if you are on income support you will get the last £40 of each monthly payment. The state keeps the rest. So if your monthly maintenance payment was £400, you would be paid £40 and DWP keeps £360, your benefits would stay the same. Tax Credits may well be affected, you'd need to check with Inland Revenue.

The whole point of it is to lower your benefits, that's the whole point of all Labour legislation. Even gay 'marriage' is to stop separate claims and make one partner dependent on the other not the state.

Yes it will affect your benefits.
Benefits are paid on the amount of money you have coming in, whatever the source of that money.
