Roller coaster don't always have to be high to be one of the best.

As many have mentioned, Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio has some of the best coasters in the world. My favorites are Raptor and Millenium Force. While Millenium is over 300 feet tall, raptor's first hill is only something like 137 feet, but it is an inverted coaster (your feet hang out) and it has like 6 inversions over the whole ride. It rocks! Millenium is pure speed and one of the smoothest coasters I have ever ridden. There are no inversions, but some of it's hills are built for maximum "air time" which I love.

Maverick is Cedar Point’s newest roller coaster! Traveling over 4,450 feet of steel tubular track, riders will feel the excitement as their train ascends up a 105-foot lift hill, propelled by linear synchronous motors. From the top, the train will drop 100 feet at an astonishing 95-degree angle! Throughout the experience, riders on Maverick will be treated to low-to-the-ground maneuvers, three inversions and a second launch that will send each train through a dark tunnel at speeds of 70 mph!

Maverick itself will not break any world records. However, the focus of building Maverick was to create an all-around fun roller coaster. While all of Cedar Point’s rides deliver a different experience, Maverick will deliver one of the steepest drops on a roller coaster, fast-paced turns, eight “airtime” hills (where riders experience weightlessness), low-to-the-ground action and an exciting second launch.

It may be by new favorite once I try it out...

Here in St. Louis I goto Six Flags every year. My personal favorite here is The Boss. It is a wooden coaster built in 2000. It has a 150 foot double-drop, meaning it goes down a 60* slope for a little more than half then levels off then drops again the rest of the way, perfect for lots of air-time :). Personally I like to ride w/ the lap bar 2 clicks loose. To get it past the safety guys simply pull your knees up close and when they come and push the bar down it wont go all the way. They dont notice. Then when the station brakes are released you can relax. The challenge it to go the whole time w/o holding on to anything :D. The best place to do this is in the very back so that by the time the back end is over the "hump" the train is already at 30 mph and it feels like you are getting thrown from your seat. The max speed is 66mph, pretty d4mn good for wood. Oh and BTW make sure you stop by the Papa Johns Pizza place by the Screamin' Eagle BEFORE you ride The Boss. Also, try to make a good pose for the camera the second time around the helix. It's a bit difficult cause of the 3 lateral G's but after some experience it can be quite fun when you and your friends look at the monitor after the ride :) Have fun!

There is no good answer to that question. Each roller coaster is unique and has something a little different to offer. If you like wooden coasters, the Voyage or Thunderhead is probably your best bet. If steel is your fav, then Millenium Force or Superman: Ride of Steel will tickle your fancy. At any rate, Mitch Hawker does an annual coaster poll that strives to answer this very question (link is below).

Griffon will carry riders 205 ft, and hurtle them 90 degrees straight down at 70mph. Griffon will be the tallest dive coaster in the world; the first floorless dive coaster, and the first to incorporate two Immelmann loops (an inverse diving loop named for a WWI German fighter pilot), a second 130-foot dive and a water feature with spectacular viewing platforms where ride watchers can share in the thrills. Each floorless coaster car will consist of three, 10-person wide rows. Griffon offers over-the-edge excitement on more than half a mile of steel track and will become the centerpiece of Busch Gardens' Europe's French section.

Currently under construction, this diving, driving force in roller coaster engineering will debut at Busch Gardens Williamsburg, Va in the late spring.

For me it's a toss up between Millennium & the Dragster at Cedar Pt. Millenium's about 300 ft high, apprx 94 mph, maybe 2&1\2 min long ride, Dragster is about 400 ft high, apprx 120 mph, but only about 19-20 sec ride, you pick, they're both great, although if I could only ride one, I would prob pick the Millenium for the longer ride, It has a cool 1st drop too
