NO: Whenever there is anything happening in the present that reminds you of the past, stop and excuse yourself. He will get the message that his actions are bad memories that you would like to forget.
If his actions don't stop, STOP THE RELATIONSHIP. This is a person that is a cancer that you need to cut out of your life. If this person is not really the type of person you really want, don't abuse yourself by trying to change him. Break the relationship.

It was only a mistake if you know you can't put it behind you. If you have truly forgiven someone for what they've done to you, then you should be able to put it to rest. If it still bothers you, then you need to be honest about it and tell him that you are having a hard time with getting over it. Holding in your hurt feelings will only lead to resentment in the future. Get it out now.

I don't know the whole story here, so it is hard to comment. But if he makes you promise to never bring up something that HE did wrong, he probably is a jerk who doesn't want to be held accountable for his actions. He needs to fully make whatever he did up to do and sincerely apoligize for it. How about making him promise to never do it again?

Don't make promises you can't keep. Unless you really feel like you won't ever bring that up again.
