Hi there,
Some of the most recommended programs on here always seem to be AVG or Avast - although this is likely to be because they are free? Looking at current protection ratings, AVG scores a lowly 90% protection against all known viruses, whilst Avast comes in at 92%. This means they are letting through one in every ten viruses - pretty shocking.
The same goes for Spybot and Adaware. In fact if you had AVG, Spybot and Adaware installed, you would surprisingly only be protected from circa 60% of all known malware (viruses, adware, spyware, trojans, etc).
Norton and McAfee are the "best known" security products, which are currently protecting against something like 98.3% and 97% of all known viruses - a much better score. However, both of these are known for being very heavy programs which can tend to slow down certain machines. If you are thinking of installing either of these I would definitely recommend you download their free trial to check it does not affect your machine in this way prior to opening your wallet.
If you would be interested in other Security products that are better than all of these, you should try either Prevx1, Kaspersky or F-Secure who all score over a 99% protection rating. Out of these three my recommendation would be Prevx1, as this is the quickest at protecting against new outbreaks of malware.

Norton is the best antivirus no other antivirus can compete with it. It leads the race for a long period of time.
The disadvantages are, it is not free thus if you use prirated you may end up problems when updating and also you cant remove (uninstall) it easily from your system you need a special software to uninstall norton product from your system completely
The negatives of Norton becomes positive for AVG it is free so no need to worry when updating and also it is simple, ie size is small, no additional software to uninstall
If you are ready to buy a paid antivirus then I say Norton is best . If you like to use free antivirus then go for AVG

That has to be the dumbest crap I've ever heard. Norton not only allows certain 'government spyware' to bypass protection, but also - the virus database is only updated on average once a week. How the hell does that make it the best? It doesn't. Most well-known? Probably. Best? Hell no.
AVG is only decent as far as prevention is concerned. Removal, on the other hand, is a pain in the ***. This is why I recommend Kapersky - it's updated MULTIPLE times daily and is good for both prevention and removal. Kapersky Anti-Hacker is good, as well.
However, if you prefer a utility with both a damn good AV and Firewall combined -- BitDefender it is. Free utilites are a great alternative to the expense of overpriced utilities - and AVG or Avast, although free, is probably still a better option than Norton products (Symantec Corp. Edition products excluded) - but, if you want to successfully protect your system without slowing it to a halt, Kapersky or BitDefender is what you want.

Your best bet is AVG Free 7.5....
It is free and does an excellent job of keeping you safe by keeping the program up to date.... Another excellent free program is Avast. Get rid of that Norton monster.... just trouble...
