You're question is too general.

Probably you should ask yourself these questions:
1. What is my purpose of making the movie?
2. Who are my target audiences?
3. What are my interests? my favorite movies? genres? etc.

It will also be helpful to keep notes of every ideas you have in mind, your dreams, interesting events happening on you personally or in the communtiy or on your nation.

some stories are born by asking what if questions. Example, what if there is a remote control that controls almost everything (Click). What if your parents turned into a pig and you are lost in a weird place (Spirited Away). What if there is a group of researchers are trapped in a river jungle and confronted with humungous snake (Anaconda)...etc etc sorry for the lame examples. hehehehe

Ideas can come from a different sources...newspaper, urban legends, stories around your neighborhood, dreams, listening to music, observing people around, books, poetry, etc. etc.

But if you are still lazy to do this on your own, here is one lame idea that i am thinking: A mother finds out the dark secret of her family after she died of an accident (She is a ghost when she found this out). The problem of this idea is that there is no conflict. The mother as a ghost cant do anything to "solve" anything. But hey, its an idea.

You can do a documentary on the festivals, fairs, and/or community celebrations throughout the U.S. There are thousands of quirky events -- like the date festival, garlic festival, small town parades.

By the way, the production costs are very low shooting a documentaries!

Pick a favorite book, then turn book into screen play.
I think turning "Dante's Inferno" into a modern day screen play --- (like that Romio & Juliet with Leonardo DiCaprio) would be super.
