I think that the 'sound' of music in the future will be dependant on the development of technology, and how sound can be perceived/generated in new and dynamic ways. We still have the same 'ears' we've had for thousands of years despite the scientific enhancements..so there is a limit. As far as composition goes..there hasn't been the same 'radical' transformation compared with technology, on how we construct our music. We get stuck into creating music in a way that seems the most appealing...And then we repeat the formula again and again.. We do experiment with it, and different genres appear..but never that radically... so they are easily traced back to source. I think music will become more of a neurological experience, involving all the senses and emotions. We will be able to plug ourselves into it directly (via a usb port in our cerebral cortex ha!) and acheive a full experience of music on every perception level. Great question by the way!

Probably as unimaginable to us as trance-techno would've been to the first rock'nrollers, or indeed rock'nroll must've been to big-band fans. But what the hell: if it kicks, then the kids'll go for it!
What's maybe more interesting is howmusic will be recorded, stored and replayed...

traditional genres shall continue to fuse together and make hybrid genres which will create new sounds. This is already happening and soon hybrids will mix with hybrids to make even more.
