The main reason is that they don't understand the cultures.

Tony Cornheiser said on PTI about 4 years ago that Hawaiian women are a dime a dozen. NOTHING happened to him! What if he said black women are a dime a dozen? He'd have lost his job! About a month after that he said that anyone who carries their baby around in a papoose(he meant a traditional Native cradleboard), they should be shot. NOTHING happened to him!

Many Americans don't understand that Native people are dual citizens. They are citizens of their original Nation, whether that is Lakota, Ojibwe, Apache or such and then they are citizens of the United States also. Not understanding that Native people are dual citizens, many people have the misunderstanding that Native people get "special rights." That's not true. Do Canadians get "special rights" because their health care is paid for? NO. That's just how their country does it. Do Natives get special rights because they have casinos? NO! That's just how their country does it.

Also, many Americans are taught to be racist in schools. Take for instance Columbus Day. Columbus and his men murdered, raped, enslaved and tortured Native people yet he has his own holiday!!!! Teachers in school teach that he is a hero. How are you going to teach little Native children that someone who brutalized their people is a hero?

Well, you might ask why is this allowed.... It's been engrained in people for generations, all the way back to the 16th century. Racism has been passed down in many American families. While a family might not be racists towards African American people they may still be racist towards Native people.
