I'm working from home and have a desktop PC. I want to be able to have all the programs that I have on that PC on a laptop, so the laptop can work exactly as the desktop PC.

Not all of the applications can be run merely by copy-pasting into another system and you may have to install 'most' of them. Some of the best solutions to your problem are -

(1) If you want exact replica of your desktop, you can create an 'image' of your desktop's hard disk and then transfer that image to Laptop's hard disk. That's It! .. The problem that I foresee in this case is as your Laptop's configuration and Desktop's configuration are different, you may have to configure your laptop's OS (depending upon which OS you are using) accordingly, but that should not be tough. Some of the image creation softwares are listed on this page - http://www.thefreecountry.com/utilities/backupandimage.shtml .. To get more information on drive images visit - http://www.drive-image.com/

(2) Another way of sharing the same APPs is by using VMWare or any other Virtualization software to create a Virtual Machine/PC and use that Virtual Machine on any system, in your case you can use the same machine on your desktop as well as your laptop. (know more about virtualization here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtualization) . Virtualization also allows you to run such multiple machines (and OS) simultaneously but at the cost of machine resources.

So, select the method that suites best to you.

No it is not. You would have to have the install disks and install each program onto the laptop.
