Under my bathroom sink, I was trying to replace the old valve, and when I turned it the whole pipe turned and broke. Now I have about 6 inches of jagged edged pipe sticking out of the wall. I need to replace that part, attach the new valve and then attach the hot water supply line. How do I fix the borken pipe myself?

First off you are going to have to cut off that jagged end piece. Use a pipe cutter that you put on the pipe and tighten it every revolution or so-((They give you a good straight, clean cut and only cost a couple bucks at a home improvement or hardware store.)) You should be able to put a compression fitting shut off valve on it then and be good to go~ then just connect your flexible water line to your faucet. Take a piece of the pipe with you to the store, if you aren't sure of it's size, and they will show you everything you need to fix it yourself. It will save you a lot of money over calling in a plumber:) I'm assuming that the pipe is copper~if it isn't, I don't know if this will apply.

If it is PVC, get a length of the same diameter and PVC glue.

Shut off the water. Cut the bad piece out. DRY OFF WELL the remaining piece!

Cut your piece.

Follow the glue directions but work FAST!

Slide on and position it!

two good answers all ready, if you have galvanized pipe you will need to unthread( turn the pipe to the left) the broken nipple and get a new piece the same size and put it back together
