How can you tell if someone is straight/bi/gay/lesbian?

By getting to know them or asking them.

There really isn't any way to know unless you ask. Sometimes, a guy is very feminine, seems gay, and is. I have seen guys I would have swore were gay that were not though. The opposite is also true. I am a gay guy, have a deep voice, don't like Madonna... Not all girly boys are gay, and not all tough guys are straight. So ask the person. Getting a truthful answer would depend on the level of trust you have with each other. If he or she thinks you are being mean, or unfriendly... Well, I doubt you will be told, "Yes, I am gay." However, if they say no that doesn't mean "Yes, I am gay but you made me uncomfortable so now I am gonna lie!"

There is no way to tell by observing. There are no signs no matter what anyone has told you or anything you've seen in flim or TV. The only way you'll ever know is if you use your words and ask the question to the party with which you are curious.

Get to know them better. If they trust you enough, they'll "reveal" themselves to you. Otherwise, it's rude to ask.
