I have this old plaque and on the back it says Manufactured by Pyraglass in Newburgh, NY. and there is also a sticker that says Maryknoll P.O. NY. I believe the Maryknoll is a religious order.
Is Pyraglass a technique or a manufacturer?

It's a brand and technique. Google returns a bunch of references.

It's a technique of laminating Cellulose Acetate to old documents or photos. It requires a hydraulic press and lots of heat. The resulting product looks more like plastic than the original document.

Cellulose acetate is created by dissolving paper in acetic acid (vinegar). The resulting solution can be formed into sheets or threads and is most often called 'rayon'

Pyraglass Products' President was Elmer F. Gillespie in 1930. He was my first cousin 2x removed on my mother's side of the family. They lived in Newburg, NY. I happened upon this question when I was trying to see if the company was still in business.
