i think that it would help people to get the perspective of the other side if they had to do that role. your idea is a good one.
you can see if you feel like having sex with the person.
both roles have problems and possibilities. both have things to learn. everyone should learn the aspects of all roles.

As a dude, I disagree.
The reason women like to be taken out is because they like a man who has the incentive and confidence to ask them out.
It's biological, since women can only have one baby at a time, they need to choose that guy carefully. Dating is basically just a screening process for women.
Plus, if women were to ask us out, then we wouldn't have to do anything, there would be no challenge. Then guys would need to spend the same amount of effort women do in making ourselves look good. Which ironically would not attract any women to men.
It's just natural that men do all the courting. Plus, how else are we supposed to show girls that we can afford. (personally I hate having to pay, seems odd for a girl I don't even know) but if a guy goes cheap on it then a girl won't even consider dating him.
It's just biology dude, but hey, that don't mean you can't be a challenge and have them chasing after you :P

This is one of the last vestiges of chivalry that most women still expect. Whether they're feminist, typical American, nice, mean, poor, or rich, they like to be asked out on dates (and usually to have the man pay for the date). Women tend to have more of a problem with rejection that men do, and they're not working to fix this. That's another facet to this.

Are you suggesting that the primary reason you ask a woman out on a date is to get the "yes" at the end of it? Perhaps this is the cause of your bitterness.

There are alot of men who get turned off from a woman asking them out and they automatically assume that she is a pushy b*tch. So I guess if more men were willing to be chased, then this could work.

good luck with that! while you're sitting around waiting to be asked out by a woman, the rest of us will be going out on dates with the women we asked out. :)
also, how many men do you think would say no? lol ;)
