I hate to say this, but it can say a lot about a person. Here's how I tell a good person: who their friends are, how they treat their parents, and how they treat waiters. If they're jerks in any of those scenarios, they're not somebody I want in my life.

As long as you have the right criteria, then I believe assessing a person by the company they keep is appropriate in many cases.

For instance, if someone wants to babysit my toddler son, and I know they enjoy spending time with NAMBLA, I may decide that they are not a good potential babysitter. However, if someone hangs out with soccer players, I can't make an assessment about that, other than the fact that they have friends who play soccer.

You can't spend a lifetime figuring out who people are, so sometimes judging by their friends (and even their book cover!) is appropriate in some cases.

It depends. As the person above stated, Jesus kept company with some pretty unconventional people, however, when he was with these people he condemned their behavior and they followed him. This is not always the case with your average person. For the most part, you emulate those with whom you associate. No one can dispute if you hang out with criminals it is very likely you will at some time be pulled into something, whether it's intentional or not, but legally, you can be accountable for some things by your association and loyalty. On a spiritual level, we shouldn't be judging people anyway (show respect to everyone), but a lot of times you can tell a person by their company.

I honestly believe that judging folks by the company they keep is wrong. People hang with certain people because they either identify with or want to be like the group of their choice. There are groups of people I would never associate closely with because we simply wouldn't have anything in common. I would never judge them because they have different ideals and values. If we were all the same life would be way too boring. Thank goodness for the freedom to be unique and individual in how we choose to live! Annie

You tend to hear the experssion birds of a feather flock together. Most of the time you chill with people who have the same interest as you. It's not a fair judgement. I mean just because your best friend has hoish tendencies doesn't mean that you have them too. Etiher way, be careful with the company you keep.

Have you ever heard the saying birds of a feather flock together? I think it rings true with the company one keeps. It's not the best way to judge a person, but it is fairly accurate.

You may look at your question firstly in Oliver Twist, Charles's Dickens book. Who is Oliver Twist? A young scoundrel. That is all that you can possibly think. What about Fagin? Who is he? Good man or bad man? I frankly do not know, No one;; absolutely no one looks past what is projected. We are all slaves to our situation and environment. Who is there to judge. Can I be the judge??. Yes we are not the judge.

Why would you keep company with people that are not, at least, similar to you? I'm not saying you can't associate or talk to anybody that doesn't have your same interests, but to "hang out" with..that's what "judges" you.

evaluation does no longer unavoidably relate to judgment. even as making an evaluation, you're in reality reviewing each and every of the perfect information which deliver about an concept, concern, fee or procedure. even as making a judgment; a range is in touch. picking an effect of kinds.
