Mr. Rajesh had tried to give some guidance but I think it would not work, as the temple authorities give the contract to some Gurukal and they may not do it upto your satisfaction.

Couple of years back i had my Shasthi Aptha Poorthi celebrated at Tirukadaiyur and I suggest you to do the same way. It has become a very commercial affair at this temple and all the Gurukal and every one has become business minded and they take lot of money. Please contact the person given below well in advance and talk to him whatever you want pujas and homams you want to perform. He will arrange for everything including the Sastrigals (the number you may require - 4 should be alright). from Mayavaram. You can also stay in the Temple guest house or in any chathiram nearby. Do not go to any Hotel, which are very costly. You can talk to him and he will arrange. You can tell my name but I doubt if he will recognize as lot of persons come there daily. You can safely send some advance wanted by him and settle the account when you go there. You talk to him well in advance.

The ancient Tamils are well cultured people. They were practising the Saiva , Vaishnava and Samana sithantha with purity. They are following the basic principles of the religion and follow the habbit of serving to poor and masses. The ancient Kings of Tamil Nadu were not living in luxurious palaces as in Rajasthan or in Great Briton. So that there has been no structres or palaces and its foundations were found. Most of the Great Kings who conquered the Great Himalayas and South East Asia were living in a simple and reasonable tenements and preach for simplicity, but they were build marvolus temples with huge cost to their beloved Gods and Goddess It is a kind of sociel service and they have provided fertailed lands as Innams and provide free food and shelter to the needy people. We must know that a pillar of Thanjore Temple or Madurai Meenakshi Amman will cost more than a crore Rupee and take more than a month of skilled labourer. The ponds were constructed for rain water harvesting ,drinking water purpose and to fill the mandabams floor purpose. It is avoiding sand quarring from the nearest rivers as done in present practises. The building of so many temples in so many cities and towns has some purpose. There had been no survey records maintained in each and every kingdoms of Tamilnadu. In every Chola kingdoms there was a custom that when the king conquered a important region he had established a Siva Linga and build a temple to mark his territory. In the Pandiya Kingdom the same practises were followed and they have also build Vaishnavite temples to mark their territory. Some of the Kings had recorded their victory in the temple premises as a mark of respect to the deity. These records are helpful for the aercologist to find the victories of the specific king.
