Slide the hold switch to the right and then to the left. After you do that, hold down the "menu" button and the center button down at the same time for a few seconds. Your iPod should restart.
I had to do this before, and it works.

The only thing to do is to rest the Ipod...you won't lose your music or any data. Try to press on the middle button and the play button at the same time and hold till you see the apple on your screen. It's happened to mine and that's how I fixed it. Try it out you have nothing to lose. Good luck. And make sure your hold button is not on hold.

if you cant hold down the power off button, read the manual that came with it, it will give you troubleshooting tips, and show you where the battery is.
do not remove the battery unless all else fails, and you do not have a warranty. (you don't want to void it, though this should not do that..but who knows)
if removing and replacing the battery does not work, take it back to where you got it, they might tell you that you have to send it in to the manufacturer, and if you have no warranty, you are screwed. sorry.

Make sure that the HOLD button is off. Press and hold the MENU and SELECT buttons together for 10 secs or until the Apple symbol appears
The instruction above from megan is incorrect for your model that is for older ipods

Go to www.apple.com and check their FAQ on iPods (under support).
Frozen ipods are quite common and there are ways to reset them.

This is information on how to reset your ipod. If it doesn't work, just search apple's support page for other solutions. http://www.apple.com/support/
