Many singles have gotten to that legendary status such as the singles/CD singles for Elton John-"Candle In The Wind" (the 1997 version), Whitney Houston-"Star Spanggled Banner" (from the 1991 Superbowl), Celine Dion-"My Heart Will Go On", Melanie C-"I Turn To You", Chic-"Good Times" among others.

An underdog for this answer might be "Yesterday" - Beatles. I doubt it. I think it's "Candle in the Wind" by Elton John. It is the only single to go #1 for 3 different versions: The album version, A live concert version, and the one played at Princess Diana's funeral.

I think the remake of Elton John's "Candle In The Wind" (for Princess Diana) surpassed "White Christmas," but I am not sure.
